The Energy Healing of Ayurveda Practice
The energy healing of Ayurveda practice harnesses the energy fields around the body using just hands as a treatment tool. One of the main benefits of learning Marma therapy is to provide the mind, body and soul with the energy of the universe. According to energy healing practitioners, energy can effortlessly hold itself in the body where there has been emotional and/or physical pain. So ideally, we need to remove these energy blocks and restore bodily harmony since this accumulated energy typically has a negative effect on our physical and mental health.
The energy is transferred as the hands are held above certain areas of the body. As per people who have undergone energy healing treatments, their practitioner’s hands feel warm, which indicates the transfer of energy taking place. The practitioner will move on to a different area of the body and repeat the process once he/she feels as though the energy has been transferred completely during the session. Sometimes a crystal may also be used instead of the palms.
What is marma therapy?
Marma training in Kerala has been practised for centuries. One of the most important sections of Ayurveda that helps to maintain health by cleansing the blocked energy is Marma therapy.
The word Marma comes from the Sanskrit term ‘Mrin Maranae’. The Sanskrit phrase, “mriyatae asmin iti marma” translates to “the likelihood of death or serious damage to health upon inflicting these points”. Marma in Sanskrit also means secret or hidden. By definition, a Marma point is a juncture on the body where multiple types of tissue meet, such as veins, muscles, bones, ligaments, or joints.
Utilizing 107 points or “doorways” into the body and consciousness, Marma therapy is the epitome of energy healing in Ayurveda. Each point gives way to the “chakras”- the vibrational energy centers along the spine in the “subtle” body thus releasing blocked energy and stimulating pranic flow which is the source of all movement in the body. Marma courses in Kerala are taught at many prominent Ayurvedic colleges in Kerala and takes years of practice to perfect the technique.

Marma Points in Ayurveda
Marma therapy recognizes and utilizes around 107 points or “doorways” into the body and consciousness. The 108th marma is the mind itself.
Minor points radiate out along the torso and limbs and major marma points correspond to the seven chakras or energy centers of the body. The marma points were mapped out in detail in the ‘ Sushruta Samhita ’, a classic Ayurvedic text, centuries ago and has been handed down from one generation to the next.
The points are distributed along the front and back of the body as given below:
